How Workers' Comp Acupuncture Works
01
File Your Claim First
Report your injury to your employer and file a workers' compensation claim with your employer's insurance carrier. You will receive a claim number once accepted.
02
Get a Doctor's Referral
In most cases, your primary treating physician (PTP) within the workers' comp system will refer you to acupuncture as part of your treatment plan. We can help coordinate this step.
03
Contact Our Office
Call us with your claim number and insurance carrier information. We will verify coverage directly with the adjuster and handle all authorization paperwork.
04
Begin Treatment
Once authorization is confirmed, schedule your first appointment. You pay nothing out of pocket - billing goes directly to your workers' comp carrier.
Why Acupuncture
Why Acupuncture for Work Injuries?
California's workers' compensation Medical Treatment Utilization Schedule (MTUS) recognizes acupuncture as an evidence-based treatment for several categories of work-related injury, including chronic and acute musculoskeletal pain, soft tissue injuries, and post-traumatic conditions.
Acupuncture's ability to reduce pain without opioids or other controlled substances is particularly valuable in the workers' comp context - where medication dependency can complicate both the patient's recovery and the legal resolution of the claim. Many injured workers use acupuncture to reduce or eliminate their reliance on prescription pain medication.
Beyond pain relief, acupuncture supports the overall recovery process by reducing inflammation, improving tissue healing, calming the nervous system, and addressing the stress and anxiety that frequently accompany a workplace injury and legal claim.
