Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between Tuina and Swedish massage?
- Tuina is a Chinese therapeutic massage that applies pressure along meridian channels and acupuncture points, often with active stretching and joint mobilization. Swedish massage focuses on broad muscle relaxation through long strokes. Tuina is more clinical in intent and suits pain conditions well. Swedish is better for general tension and stress.
- Can massage be combined with acupuncture in the same session?
- Yes. Many patients at our clinic receive both acupuncture and massage in the same visit. The combination is particularly effective for musculoskeletal conditions -- acupuncture addresses the systemic component while massage works the local tissue directly.
- How often should I get massage therapy?
- For pain management or injury recovery, weekly or biweekly sessions are typical until the acute phase resolves. For general maintenance and stress management, monthly sessions are sufficient for most people. Your therapist will recommend a frequency based on your goals.
- Is massage therapy covered by insurance?
- Massage therapy is sometimes covered under an acupuncture or physical therapy benefit depending on your plan and how the visit is billed. Coverage is less consistent than for acupuncture alone. We can check your specific plan when we verify your benefits.
